Sword of His Mouth

With the conclusion of the Olympic games I had a couple of thoughts. Even though 2 or more individuals compete only one emerges as the victor (for the most part). Both have the same set of rules that apply. Maybe that is why Paul said; Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

You get disqualified when you violate the rules. You are also not going to win unless you do your utmost best and endure until the end. And for this to happen, preparation and dedication is key.

As with the rules of the game, the same word brings blessing and curse, depending on our response towards it. And this leads me to the mystery of the Sword proceeding from the Messiah’s mouth in the book of Revelation.

Revelation 1:16

And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and His countenance was as the sun shineth in His strength.

Two edged sword or double edged sword simply means a sword that can cut both ways. Two blades, in one weapon.

Now, to make it more practical. The same Word brings division between the righteous and the unrighteous. For instance when Yeshua separates the sheep and the goats in Matthew 24. The two-edged sword comes into play. The same word brings eternal life or is a witness against the unrepentant heart.

Revelation 2:16

Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

There is a blessing when Yah divides. Our human nature thinks of division as deducting from the whole but the math of Yah works differently when He divides.

Think of the creation account where He divided the day from the night, or when Yeshua divided the fish and the bread. Unlike in our carnal minds where division equals less, in Yah’s kingdom when He divides, there is increase. More fish, more bread, more aspects of creation. There is a deeper truth here, but lets stick to today’s topic.

Revelation 19:14-16,21

And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of His mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

The passage in Revelation 19 correlates with the Wisdom of Solomon and Enoch.

Wisdom of Solomon 18:15-16

Thine Almighty word leaped down from heaven out of thy royal throne, as a fierce man of war into the midst of a land of destruction, And brought thine unfeigned commandment as a sharp sword, and standing up filled all things with death; and it touched the heaven, but it stood upon the earth.

Enoch 61: 2-4,13-15

The Lord of spirits sat upon the throne of His glory and the spirit of righteousness was poured out over Him. The word of His mouth shall destroy all the sinners and all the ungodly, who shall perish at his presence

They shall fix their hopes on this Son of man, shall pray to Him, and petition Him for mercy. Then shall the Lord of spirits hasten to expel them from His presence. Their faces shall be full of confusion, and their faces shall darkness cover. The angels shall take them to punishment, that vengeance may be inflicted on those who have oppressed His children and His elect. And they shall become an example to the saints and to His elect. Through them shall these be made joyful; for the anger of the Lord of spirits shall rest upon them. Then the sword of the Lord of spirits shall be drunk with their blood; but the saints and elect shall be safe in that day; nor the face of the sinners and the ungodly shall they thenceforwards behold

When the law will proceed from Zion it will be a glorious day for the chosen, but a day of dread for the unrighteous. In this life we have the choice and liberty to respond to Him.

When Yah speaks all of creation responds to the Word from His mouth – in a good or bad way. Nothing we do or say can nullify the Word of the Father. His rules and rulings are fixed. We only have the option of how we respond to His voice and how we respond determines on which side of the double-edged sword we stand. Are we the receptors of the blessing or the curse? Are we running by the rules? Are we running to win?

This is not to encourage a performance driven relationship with Yah, but to cling to Him and to trust and rely on Him more and more as the Day draws near. Because I know I fail at this, but I also know when I am weak, He is strong.
